Stress And The Human Brain - 1720 Words

When we encounter a threat that we feel we do not have the resources to deal with, a stimulus known as stressors are released and as a result, makes us stressed. These stressors activate the stress-response system which sends a cascade of biological events thus releasing the stress hormones known as adrenaline and cortisol. The hormones cause our body to go into a ‘Flight or Fight’ mode and can affect us either positively or negatively. By going into flight or fight mode our blood pressure, breathing, and heart rate increases meanwhile there is a decrease in digestive activity and the liver produces more glucose for energy. The topic of stress is a very popular area of study for those interested in human sciences. In particular, stress is often viewed through the scopes of a Psychologist, Sociologist and an Anthropologist. The Psychologist s perspective revolves around relations between stress and the human brain. One of the questions they might ask would be if an individual can be born with stress. The answer is sometimes but not often. Researches at the University of Edinburgh found that mother’s wombs and babies brains contain a chemical protecting them from a mother s stress. However, if this chemical is unavailable, then the mothers are potentially exposing their unborn babies to stress. The study also discovered that the babies exposed to stress in the womb tend to be more susceptible to anxiety and depression. Life At Home Recovering Before It Is Safe For Resume Work

Many times after injuries or medical procedures, one is required to spend time at home recovering before it is safe to resume work. In the Army, this recovery leave is non-chargeable and a physician decides the length of recovery. The first form of leave is called quarters and is typically 24 to 36 hours. Quarters is typically prescribed to soldiers that have infectious diseases such as the flu. When a Soldier is given quarters they must stay at home in order to mitigate the spread of the disease and to allow them to rest and recover. The second form of medical leave is called convalescence leave. Convalescence leave is prescribed by a physician following a surgical procedure to allow a soldier to recover and is also non-chargeable.†¦show more content†¦Probably one of the biggest aspects of the Army’s Total Compensation plan is the free medical coverage provided to all soldiers. I cannot think of another organization that offers a totally cost free medical pac kage for its employees. Also, as I mentioned earlier, the leadership in the Army is very supportive of soldiers attending medical appointments in order to maintain a high level of medical readiness, which is a critical aspect of the Army being able to conduct its mission. Soldiers do not see a physician when they are injured or ill initially. The first line of medical screening includes unit medical personnel, which includes medics and the unit physician’s assistant. If it is determined that the soldier will require treatment or diagnosis from a physician they are then referred to a doctor. This is a key way that the Army saves money on its no cost medical coverage. By not having a soldier be seen by a physician immediately and having a lower ranking medic, who gets paid much less, conduct the initial assessment and possibly remedy the situation, the Army save substantial money. Of course, if a soldier is critically injured or ill they can always go to the military ins tallation emergency room for treatment or call 911 for assistance. Depending on the nature of the injury or illness, and whether or not the appropriate physician or specialist is available at the military installation, a soldierShow MoreRelatedSmart Phone2753 Words   |  12 Pagespeople are unaware that their cellphone is just as vulnerable to cyber attacks as their desktop computer. Alcohol and Smoking

Question: Discuss about the Alcohol and Smoking. Answer: Introduction: Alcohol and smoking are prevalent in the society today. The condition is shown to be very addictive to the users who often suffer from the status till death. Many abusers of the alcohol and substance often have health complications which are responsible for the suffering of the addicted individuals. The state has called support from the Palmerston Association centres across the country to help mitigate the situation. Although efforts to control the use of the drug among the citizens by the government have been made, there is still much to be done to monitor the condition actually, in particular among the addicted individuals. Alcohol and smoking have been the cause of many sufferings in the society (In Kaye, In Vadivelu In Urman, 2015). Primarily the drugs and alcohol have affected the health conditions of the individual. The aim of the health organization has been to help the addicted person get rescued from the health difficulties caused by the alcohol and cigarettes. The essay ou tlines the processes and the professionals involved in the control of the health conditions. Many countries in the world estimated to be around 50% of the countries in the world have established Palmerston Association centres that serve as the rehabilitation areas of the affected individuals where there are psychologists who provide guidance and counselling services to the addicted people. A study was conducted in one of the clients of the health officers who also were a victim of the condition. The research entailed interviewing a person and requested to know his perception of the health status and the services that are offered (In Crome, In Wu, In Crome In Rao, 2015). The person opened revealed how he had entered the condition without knowing; he said he was introduced into the act by friends while in school which affected his academics than he decided to quite the scholars. The program offered at the centre includes the art and craft work program that has a beneficial result on the lives of the victims. He began engaging in some smaller businesses which also failed becau se he was often drunk and unable to manage his business well. His family was affected financially and health. He expressed through tears how his only daughter died from anaemia a condition that resulted from his action. He decided to go for the rehabilitation process. The health centre offers education services majorly advise the victims on how they can manage their conditions. He said he is improving his condition unlike some two years back he had continuously been admitted to the hospital for many other diseases. The study further performed some research through the use of the questionnaires had been prepared to the diverse age groups across the country. The researchers collected the information and combined it with information had been gotten from the books which have written on the similar topic (Hoffman, San Fernando Valley Bar Association Versa-Tape Company, 2015). The information shows how the condition has affected the victims negatively. It is the cause of many deaths and poor living conditions in the country. The role of the psychologists in the Palmerston Association centres is to help the individual to be emotionally active and made proper decisions because many people according to the research, abuse the alcohol and smoking because of stress. Counselling and group work programs that are offered at the centre. In addition to the presence of the psychologists in the Palmerston Association centres, there are also the doctors of different specialties who deal with their various sections. The health officers perform a full treatment process as in the health standard setting in which the operations, the tests are performed just like the normal process. There is also the connection with the relevant police offices which act in collaboration with the health centres and provide the required security and the help in providing order in the treatment process (In Wodarski in Curtis, 2015). The Palmerston Association centres provide the necessary medical services to the individuals to ensure that the health condition of the people is restored. The education services are provided by the respective trained officials who are expected to educate the victims on the value of about the need for a balanced diet in the life of the victims. The guidance and counselling department also work with the Palmerston A ssociation centres to ensure that the victims are counselled, and their conditions are fully settled (AreaÃÅ' n, 2015). The counselling program starts with testing the diseases, performing the operations if any, the victims are then taken to the psychologists who need to identify any effects on the brains of the individuals through their methods of evaluation. The victims are then treated but restrained from accessing the drugs. The victims are taken through counselling sessions to advise them to change their behaviour through the vocational training programs. According to the research, 60% of the victims have responded positively to the practices offered at the Palmerston Association centres. Many victims who were almost beyond salvage are rescued from the additions. Many individual confess that the practice from the health centres is useful in the bid to control the growth of the addiction population in the country. The practice has also enhanced the reduction of crimes in the country through the management of the drug abuse practices (Keith, 2015). The approach has received approval from the various government and non-governmental organizations which encourage the continuity of the practices. The spread of the diseases in the country has reduced. Nonetheless, there is more that need to be done to ensure that the active participation in the calming community as the chief focus programs are offered, firstly, the government has to increase its financial support to the centres. People need to encourage taking the practices seriously and joy fully and offering their support. References AreaÃÅ' n, P. A. (2015). What is Better Marvel or DC free essay sample

Comics, they are the earliest form of entertainment for kids and adults and they are still entertaining up to today. Though there are many publishers of comic books nowadays, Marvel Comics and DC Comics the most known today all over the world. Despite Marvel’s vast number of comics, DC Comics; in my opinion though, might be just as good as Marvel Comics. I think Marvel comics is the best for me, because when I was growing up, I enjoyed the Spider-Man series which is still my all-time favorite superhero up until today. â€Å"Which is better?† people might ask, to what I’ll respond in my biased opinion, Marvel Comics; however, to most people, DC Comics is the best. The answer to this conundrum might be shown in this essay so read and decide. Why do I like Marvel better than DC? Well when I was growing up I saw the cartoon of Spider-Man and I ended up liking it. We will write a custom essay sample on What is Better Marvel or DC or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Spider-Man has been my favorite superhero ever since. When I learned that there were other heroes in Marvel, I immediately took the side of Marvel. Marvel Comics has many more heroes besides Spider-Man, heroes like Iron Man, X-Men, The Hulk, The Fantastic Four, and many more. On the other hand, I like DC Comics as well, another one of my favorite heroes, as I was growing up, was Batman, the only hero without powers, and the only comic I can read without getting lost in the story, so I must admit DC has a very good hero that I like to read about and has good traits as well. In the end, though, my choice goes to Marvel Comics for having Spider-Man, one of my favorite superheroes until this day. Marvel and DC have similarities that make them the same in their category; for example, they are similar in that they both have many heroes, they were founded around the same time, in the 1930s, people all over the world read both comics, they both made movies with their most popular heroes, like: Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, and other movies from Marvel, and Batman, Green Lantern, Superman, and other movies from DC. Marvel and DC have a lot of similarities that make them look like they are the same. Despite that, they have differences that also make them what they are at a particular level, and it is these differences that set them apart. It’s true, there are some aspects that make DC and Marvel similar, but it’s the differences that set them apart. DC; for instance, is said to be five years older than Marvel, but it does not seem to matter that much since it is said that Marvel is better than DC because people find Marvel heroes to be more relatable to readers than DC heroes whom are more fantasy like and more fictional to readers, and another way of seeing the statistics is picture 1, showing that sales on Marvel Comics is better than sales on DC Comics. Personally, I agree that Marvel is better, because of personal experience, and whenever I read Marvel comics, I find it easier to read and I think of them more human-like; for instance, Peter Parker (secretly Spider-man) is just a high school student in Queens, New York, until he is bitten by a spider, which turns him into my favorite superhero Spider-Man, unlike DC comics, where I seem to get lost in all their stories, plus, they seem more fictional. Because of this, I see Marvel as the better comic group than DC. To conclude, not because of their similarities, but because of their differences; in my view, Marvel Comics is better than DC Comics. Their relatable characters make Marvel the best, because most of these heroes start from a humble beginning, like Captain America whom volunteered in an experiment, which, as a result, gave him superhuman strength and speed, and the Incredible Hulk was a scientist that was exposed to gamma rays, creating a superhero, and many more, unlike DC whose heroes have fictional beginnings, take Green Lantern, whose powers come from a ring from a distant planet, and Superman’s superhuman strength and superhuman durability and his powers to fly. These are the differences that show why Marvel is better than DC, despite what other people say, Marvel is the best!
